TorqueBox: Ruby on Rails with Enterprise Goodness

Abstract: 

Ruby on Rails, while popular, has suffered from lacking "enterprise" facilities. The TorqueBox project takes the industrial-strength JBoss application server, and bridges it to the Ruby on Rails world. While doing this, it provides more facilities than Rails does by itself, including job scheduling, full-fledged SOAP support, and baked-in asynchronous task queues.

In this talk, we'll examine these facilities and demonstrate how TorqueBox can enhance both your development and deployment of Rails application, while retaining all the goodness you love from traditional Rails development.

About the speaker: 

Bob has been an engineer for a dozen years, founding the Codehaus community, co-founding the Drools rule engine, the Groovy language, and creating the TorqueBox Ruby application server.

John is a web developer for OnoMojo LLC, working primarily on Ruby on Rails applications. He is a ruby enthusiast and has contributed to multiple open source projects. John formerly worked as linux systems engineer for leading hosting company in St. Louis. When not hacking on code, John spends his time with his wife, daughter and bicycle.
