Keynote: "Minimalism in Software"

Speaker:
Alex Payne
Abstract:

With every passing year, the trade of programming becomes about more: more languages, more libraries, more frameworks, more platforms, more development methodologies. Where does less fit in? This keynote addresses a single topic, one that raises many questions: what is the role of minimalism in software engineering? Is a minimalist aesthetic a useful tool or a reductionist fantasy for today's programmer? Is it possible to design simple/minimal software, or are there too many layers of complexity on modern platforms? The speaker will explore minimalist languages, technologies, art, and design in search of answers to these questions.
